Master of Science in Professional Leadership
Program Concentrations

In addition to core courses, each student selects a field of concentration:

  • Training and Development covers principles of performance management and of training. The focus of the concentration is analysis of organizational problems and the design, delivery, and evaluation of interventions to solve those problems. Students put theory into practice by developing and delivering performance management programs or by designing and delivering training modules on problems they choose, using different forms of technology.

  • Organizational Influence and Policy: Students will study an organization through the lens of policy and influence. Students will further their understanding of how to assess organizational culture and climate, including gender relations, and how to increase their persuasiveness as “savvy professionals” in their organizations. Students will explore organizations in any policy area of interest, including healthcare, social welfare, education, environment, social policy, and finance.

  • Management for Nonprofit Organizations gives students a larger picture of the nonprofit arena in relation to the government and business sectors. Through the study of actual organizations and speakers from the nonprofit community, including southwestern Pennsylvania foundations, students will develop skills in important areas such as strategic planning, human resources, financial management and development work, including software to manage fundraising and donor relations. Speakers from the nonprofit community will provide additional information for the development of students’ career goals.
