Family Nurse Practitioners (FNP) are advanced practice nurses who manage acute and chronic conditions, promote health, prevent disease, educate, and provide counseling services to individuals and families across the lifespan.
The focus of the FNP program is to prepare graduates to think clearly and creatively and to provide high quality healthcare services with competence and compassion. The program encompasses 50 credits and 600 clinical hours in a wide variety of urban and rural health care agencies including physician offices, family health centers, and clinics in medically underserved communities.
The Graduate School of Nursing follows the Carlow University mission to educate, challenge, and expect all students to uncover, expand, and realize their potential. Full-time, part-time, and post-masters FNP Certification options for study are available. Students attending full-time may complete the program in 2 ½ years.
Classes are offered in hybrid format combining online with regular live sessions at the Oakland, Greensburg, and Cranberry campus locations. All members of the FNP faculty maintain clinical practice and national certification.
Graduates are eligible to become certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as Family Nurse Practitioners and are eligible for prescriptive authority. Graduates are also qualified to apply for national certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner from either the American Nurses' Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
The MSN program serves as the basis for doctoral studies and lifelong learning. Graduates will assume leadership positions in nursing and will contribute to the discipline of nursing through their evidence-based practice efforts.
