Program Overview
The early childhood supervisor is the catalyst for change in the educational setting. Some roles of the supervisor remain constant in infant settings, preschools, and K-3; others are strongly influenced by developmental age as well as content, materials and learning strategies appropriate to each age grouping. The supervisor must be: a) a responsible leader, b) developer of curriculum, c) an attentive listener to and accurate observer of child, teacher, staff, parent, and community needs, d) a resource for enabler of growth, e) a competent and creative administrator, f) a mediator and challenger.
The supervisor assumes varied responsibilities that include:
- The promotion of maximum learning and growth for all children through established programs and appropriate activities,
- The development of an informed set of values in staff and students,
- The supervision of both teachers and children with appropriate and timely feedback on their progress toward established goals,
- The promotion of a healthy self-image in teachers and children,
- The development of positive relationships with parents, school boards, and communities,
- The creation of a communication network at all levels of the school that will promote learning and curriculum development and so provide for appropriate articulation in the curriculum.
